Abstract

The object of the proposed research is human foot and its geometrical-anatomical characteristics. The research aims at examination of measuring characteristics of dimensions of the foot that are acquired through different measuring methods and form the norms for children between 9 and 14 years of age. The final goal is to give suggestions for improvement of technology, used for the capturing of foot print and foot contour and present it to wider expert community. We hypothesise that: (i) the processing of data with computer algorithms will enable greater reliability of measurements in comparison to manual measurements; (ii) the validity of measures of foot print and foot contour accessed with new technologies will be improved; (iii) some of the acquired dimensions will depend on the level of weight-bearing of the measured foot; (iv) on the basis of one- and two-dimensional measures it will be possible to predict some of the three-dimensional measures of the foot. The described hypotheses will be tested with available equipment (pedograph, 3D foot scanner, and computer) that will be further improved through independent development. The research that will be conducted in respect of medical ethics and the Helsinki declaration will include healthy volunteers between 9 to 30 years old.
